Service Description

Couples Counselling in Practice is a 12-week, immersive training experience designed for emerging and early-career counsellors who want more than just theory—they want to feel confident, skilled, and ready to work with couples in the real world. Offered through TAPA – The Aly’s Place Academy – this program brings together evidence-based frameworks, contemporary relational theory, and hands-on learning in a format that’s as human-centred as the work itself. Whether you're stepping into couples work for the first time or looking to sharpen your skills with guidance and structure, this course is tailored to help you bridge the gap between knowing and doing. Across 12 weeks, you’ll explore topics such as attachment and systemic thinking in couples therapy, the impact of trauma and neurodiversity in relationships, strategies for managing infidelity, ruptures, and high-conflict dynamics, and how to navigate the ethical nuances of working with two clients in one room. But the real difference? This isn’t just a sit-and-watch course. Each week includes a live seminar with expert facilitators, skills workshops, and structured application exercises that mirror real sessions. Participants also gain access to our TAPA Couples Toolkit—a curated collection of assessments, session templates, formulation guides, and conversation scripts. If suitable, you’ll have the opportunity to work with real clients through our TAPA student-led clinic, under live supervision. If not, you’ll be guided through high-fidelity roleplays with your peers, designed to simulate the emotional depth and complexity of real therapeutic encounters. You’ll also receive weekly group supervision in a supportive learning environment, and complete short reflective assessments designed to integrate knowledge with clinical reasoning. By the end of the course, you'll walk away not just with theory—but with practice: real conversations, applied interventions, and the confidence to step into the therapy room with couples.
